The Dragonfly on the Rope

Funny how at times people tend to realize something through the simplest of things.

Just before I headed home this morning, I passed by the nearest mall in our town to buy some stuffs. Upon leaving the place, I saw the most unlikely thing there is: a dragonfly. It was peacefully resting on a rope divider in the middle of the busy street.

Memories suddenly flashed back in my mind—I remembered my carefree childhood days wherein we used to chase and catch dragonflies for past time in our village/school. Though I’m actually an Entomophobic (I fear ALL insects), I pretended back then that I loved touching the tiny wings of those poor little creatures.

After a few seconds of going back time, the realization poured.

Thanks to the dragonfly, I once again understood and remembered how important it is to shrug off things: that it is never right to pressure oneself just to fit the society; and that it is always right to think calmly without compromising one’s social acceptance. Thanks to that carefree childhood memory, I missed being free: that it is never right to feel halfhearted happiness; and that it is always right to embrace youthfulness with a mature state of mind.

As my jeepney ride went off, the dragonfly just sat there—it remained calm. Not even the busy street hindered its peaceful stance. That scene left a smirk on my face and a smile in my heart—I’m me, and no one can ever shake me.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Rating:★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Animation
As I’ve expected, it wasn’t as funny and touching as the first one.

The attempt on focusing the story once again to family’s love for one another was a bit off on this third installment. I’m not questioning the writer’s point of view, but IMHO, it lacked depth.

But as always, Sid and the little guy/thing (the one who always chases the nut) were the breath of fresh air. It may not be as hilarious as the first one, but they somehow left the same smirk on my face like when I was so into watching Ice Age over and over before.

Still for kids, but not for the kids-at-heart anymore if you ask me.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Rating:★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy
No, this is not your ordinary type of revenge—it’s revenge personified, or should I say, robotized.

Megan Fox was scorching hot than ever, while Shia displayed a very disgusting and a very disturbing possessed state. Yes, comic relief was then again served in this sequel, but it somehow crossed the line.

The tandem of Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg is still unstoppable. Though some parts had obvious visual effects, it can still brag that this movie is the new face of sci-fi films in this era. Musical score was a bit superhero-like oftentimes. Bay’s signature light/sunburst effect (whatever you may call it) was lessened here as the story attempted to jump from less drama to more comedy, to somehow balance the whole film.

Was it worth it? Yes. Did it surpass its prequel? I don’t think so. But the depth of the story is one thing moviegoers shouldn’t miss here—and yes, they better believe that there’s still more than meets the eye.

American Idol Top 7 (Again): Kris Allen - She Works Hard For The Money

What a brilliant performance!
Though I still don't get why some of them tweaked the should've been up-tempo night, Kris really wowed me.
With him, I feel like watching David Cook meets Jason Mraz meets Jason Castro - originality, cool vocal ability and to-die-for charm!
Great, great, great!

SPOTTED: The Busz?

SPOTTED.
Lonely Boy filling the cold, chilly air with warmth.
Could it be that he finally saw the Perfect Soul?
Or was it just, yet again, a pigment of his own fiction?
Pleasures never last that long – if you know what I mean.

Four years ago
was the first time I saw you.
Inside a four-sided figure that’s out of reash;
I did try to find a way to touch it.

Three years ago,
I finally saw you up close.
Though bathed in the derk,
you still made me feel the warmth.

Two hours ago,
you let me discover you again.
This time in vibid light,
I almost wished the touch and warmth would last.

I'm a VAMPIRE?!

What are vampires?

Well, according to Wikipedia, vampires are mythological or folkloric revenants who subsist by feeding on the blood of the living.

Ok, this is not a post-Halloween blog, to clarify things early. I was just shocked that there are really vampires! Yup, you've read it right - THERE ARE VAMPIRES. Thanks to The Tyra Show (which I'm actually fond of watching, thanks to ETC SBN 21), my beliefs with the supernatural thingy has escalated once more.

During their Halloween episode (Oct. 31, 2008), Banks interviewed not 1 but 4 living vampires. One of them was actually featured before in a National Geographic documentary(?) about their kind; while one was featured on a reality show(?). Unfortunately though, I can't find videos yet regarding the said episode, but I have a pic here which you'll see Tyra talking to the Vampire Emperor (thanks to thetyrashow.com for the pic; sorry, I forgot the Emperor's name!):

There were actually two things discussed on the episode which captured my senses. First, they have classifications: Blood Vampires (feeds mainly on blood), Psychic Vampires (feeds on psy energies), and Hybrid Vampires (both Blood and Psychic). Second, on how to determine whether you yourself is a born vampire. Well, they have cited qualities, and there's one which actually struck me: you are a vampire if you tend to/more often sleep during daytime. The hell! I'm like that! But if ever I'd be a vampire, I'll probably be a Psy Vampire. It's cool, yet it's not disgusting. LOL!

I'm now more excited on the showing of Twilight - eventhough I don't have any idea about it.

The Curse

The Curse

Release me from this curse I’m in..
Trying to maintain but I’m strugglin’..

Curse [kurs] – the cause of evil, misfortune, or trouble;
an evil that has been invoked upon one.

As a lot of you may have known or hinted already, I am a believer of magic. It is something that exist, a source of one’s both positive and negative energy – well, that is for me; that’s how I see it. But contrary to what others know, this knack about the unexplained is actually a serious thing for me. Yes, I do take this really seriously. Indeed, I have a very broad imagination – but I have deeper thoughts and sense as well. Call this insanity, I don’t care. It has been years, and still, I am cursed with:

MIW (Men In White)
This applies to all people clad in white, head to foot. I may see them clear, clean, and all that, but they bring me doom when it comes to love. Picture these, my first ex-girlfriend later turned out taking nursing when she entered college; my second was a nursing student; my third (and last) was studying in a marine school, and yes, the uniform was all-white as well. After these three, all the previous flings/hook-ups/flirts/MUs I’ve had with people like them were all unsuccessful. Believe it or not, because of this, I hate wearing white.

Brothers’ Grim
This applies to males older than my recent age. I’m an only child, so it would be normal for me to be very friendly and sociable, and oftentimes, I tend to seek an older brother or a younger sister in my circle. Yes, I have been fortunate enough to have little sisters, but the dilemma is with the big bros. If I am not mistaken – which I know I’m not – I’ve had harassment experiences with all of them. I don’t want to elaborate anymore; no pun intended.

My Best Friend’s Wrath
This applies to all people – all. Since I don’t have any siblings, my last and greatest resort among my circle of pals is always the best friend. Luckily, I’ve had – unluckily, I’ve had many. All of them are now gone, some are for good and some are just forgotten. I don’t know, whenever there is a huge feud between us, everything breaks. Thanks to the number one reason of all these: jealousy.

Now, I have finally revealed my curse to the world. As I embark on a new magical journey after writing this, I am hoping for the better. Though I know this wouldn’t take as fast as a finger snap, the slow process of removal would be really enough for me to take.

So, I implore you – yes YOU.
Will you please..?
You know what to do.

If you can’t go..
Think I’m gonna..

Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time [Motown Version]

Britney Spears performing "...Baby One More Time" live during her ABC Special on her In The Zone DVD.

If ever this single would be re-enhanced and re-released, I'd prefer this version.
Sexy and classy!
And oh - it's her first single's 10th year anniversary!
It has been a decade since Britney stole our hearts with her first song, Baby One More Time.

The Love of Siam

Rating:★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Drama
Whenever something breaks, something patches up consequently. This romantic-drama film teaches the value of bravery, the bittersweet process of acceptance, and hope for an endless love.

Little by little, the story projects deep lessons through the film’s simplicity. Though there were some draggy and extraneously comical scenes, the effort to portray the most meaningful and touching narratives were exceptional. Characters gave justice to their roles, intertwining the harmonious balance of well polished acting and constructive direction.

Societal issues tackled in the film generated interesting ideas and helped in the story’s build-up. This flick is really for everyone – for everyone who wants to believe in the hope of finding that one, true unending love and inner peace.

If I said that I watched it without crying, would you believe me?

I'm a smart person, what the hell was I thinking?
- Britney Spears

A video documentary set to air on Sunday, November 30 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
Here's the preview:

Britney Spears 'Sets The Record Straight' In Documentary Airing November 30 On MTV -- Check Out A Preview Here!

In the special, Britney reflects on hardships of the past few years: 'What the hell was I thinking?'
By Jocelyn Vena

Possibly more than anyone on Earth, Britney Spears' life is constantly documented by the media, which voraciously reports on the singer's every step and misstep. But what's it like to be in her shoes?

With her new album, Circus, set for release in just a few weeks, the singer is ready to show the world her side of the story.

Britney has joined forces with MTV for a 90-minute documentary about her return to the pop-music spotlight. Tentatively titled "For the Record," the special is set to air on November 30 at 10 p.m. on MTV, two days before Circus is released on December 2 (the singer's 27th birthday).

"So much has gone on over the last couple of years and there's a lot that people don't know about me that I want them to know," Spears told MTV News in a statement about the special. "I wanted to make this film because I started to feel like I wasn't being seen in the light that I wanted to be seen in. This is an opportunity to set the record straight and talk about what I've been through and where I'm headed."

The documentary combines personal stories with behind-the-scenes footage of her comeback. Cameras follow her to the recording studio, to rehearsals, to press tours, to the video shoot for her latest single, "Womanizer," and even to her hometown in Louisiana. Backstage footage from her recent triumphant appearance at the Video Music Awards is also featured.

Through it all, we hear Britney talking about the hardships that led up to this comeback. "I've been through a lot, and there's a lot people don't know," she says in the film. "Sometimes it can get lonely 'cause you don't open the gate. I'm stuck in this place, and I just cope every day."

Britney also owns up to the mistakes the world has watched her make, and offers some telling insight into how she feels about it all now. "I sit there and I look back," she says, before asking rhetorically: "I'm a smart person, what the hell was I thinking?"

"For the Record" airs Sunday, November 30 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Rating:★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy
No, this is not a new MIB movie. Creepy, disgusting creatures (if you may call it..) were seen lurking everywhere throughout the movie – but what the heck? Two thumbs-up for that.

Packed with lots of superb visual effects and musical score, you just can’t help but smile while watching this second installment of Hellboy. Acting-wise, I really can’t tell; but prosthetics were still excellent!

The vision and story was clear, it emphasized again the value of being human – why we have holes in our hearts. Imperfection is normal; everyone and everything has weakness – no one’s “industrible”.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: July 2009?

Yes, this is not a rumor!
Oh how I wish this is!
I can't believe Warner Bros. decided to move the release date of the film.
Are they afraid of the worldwide success of The Dark Knight?
Bloody hell!
Stupefy!

Proof:

Press Release:

BURBANK, CA, August 14, 2008 – Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.

In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed, “The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. Post-production on ‘Half-Blood Prince’ was completed on time, and the studio’s release plans for the two-part ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between ‘Half-Blood Prince’ and the first part of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.’”

Commenting on the release date change for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” David Heyman, the producer of all the Harry Potter films, offered, “When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer.”

David Yates, the director of both “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and who will also helm “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” added, “It has been a joy to work on ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.’ Dan, Rupert and Emma and all our returning young cast continue to blossom, and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films—we start filming in February—and I am excited to bring this remarkable series to the exciting and moving conclusion its loyal fans deserve.”
