Pinoy Idol

Rating:★★★★

GMA 7 had the second Idol franchise of the country, after having the 1st season (then Philippine Idol) last 2006 – aired by ABC 5. The Philippines is the 35th country to have this phenomenal franchise, and the 6th in Asia.

Pinoy Idol now has a different taste, compared to Philippine Idol. It is evident through the much bigger and better production of the show.

The Top 24 now gets to perform on a stage somewhat alike with American Idol. Though the whole set looked squeezed inside a small area, it is still way better than singing inside a typical cinema hall.

Lights were a bit off – it doesn’t help the contestants in dramatizing their performance. But the background visuals were awesome compared before.

It now has commendable camera angles and shots, as well as the sequencing of scenes – very Idol-ish.

The judges tries too much to be like Randy, Paula, and Simon, but the exchange on who’s to comment first makes it a breath of fresh air. The host was lame, but good enough than Ryan Agoncillo – who tries very, very hard to sound like Ryan Seacrest.

After having a sore season last 2006, our own Idol today deserves a better judgment among the viewers. Having said that, the show is ok, way better than the first season, but needs to improve – a lot.

What made you say that it was baranggayan from the host to the contestants to the judges and all the way to the show itself?

CONVINCE ME.

=p

*The stage was BETTER than the 1st season - pinanood mo ba dati?

*Raymond speaks more CLEARLY and has a much ENCOURAGING tone when speaking than Ryan Agoncillo. Adlibs are just adlibs - the script is the backbone of the show.

*It was actually evident that the "rakistas" were better performers than the balladeers. Take note: BETTER PERFORMERS.

I also beg to disagree here..

Ryan Agoncillo was so stiff and boring when he hosted season 1. And he always does this intonation when speaking which sounded like copying Seacrest's. Very trying hard.

=p

hmmm...nice argumentation...:P....... but it seems naman that it SOMEHOW improved in terms of production than ABC 5's franchise...and the viewership as well...

pero iba talaga ang caliber ng AMERICAN IDOL....that's it...direktor ba naman kc nyan c louie ignacio...(correct me if i'm wrong) un na!!

and i think din naman na makakagawa naman cla ng "ingay" unlike mau marcelo.. kc meron na din clang Pinoy Idol Extra..:)

pasenxa na...opinion lang..

simple lang... hello?! nanood ka ba?
were your eyes and ears open?
it was like even listening to karaoke singers in a karinderya.
oh well! it's hard to convince biased audience.
you know you are var, don't deny it..

maverick javier said...

clearly? nasal nga sya magsalita e..
kaya malabo..
adlibs are NOT just adlibs. Adlib ang nagdadala ng continuity ng program, and if you don't know how to do it well, the program runs so stiff and boxed! I know.

You are right in saying that the script is the backbone of the show. therefore, good hosts should speak good adlibs. dahil pag nawala ang prompter ng script at hindi marunong ang host, patay ang program. and Raymond is not a good extempo speaker.. masyadong nakakahon sa script. and before i forget, ang bading nya magsalita. and even the gestures. whew!

maverick javier said...

you mean argument, alex...
but you're right. ang caliber ay nasa direktor din.
and it shows LOW caliber.
haha!

maverick javier said...

i second the motion! =p

'Varian Mazo The Ringleader' said...

*That's what I'm saying here - it is WAY BETTER than season 1.

*Yep, Ignacio na nmn ang direktor - kaya it needs improvement tlga.

*I just found out na my American Idol Extra pla sa US, hehe..

I was fully awake when I watched it..
And if you were, you should've noticed that some were not karaoke-ish..
Try to review the performances of Robby Navarro, JJ Jr., Toffer Rei, Warren Antig, Regene Ong, Bev Ejercito, and Penelope - I don't call that karaoke singing..
If I was biased, then why would I bother critiquing the show myself?
I don't think I have something to deny..

It wasn't malabo, and in the first place, why would the management entrust the job to Raymond if he has no skills?
I also know that adlibs make the flow of the show smooth, but then again, it all comes down to how the script goes.

Thank you for accepting my point, but I think a good host must remember his script first wholeheartedly - and by that, he could do with the adlibs. How can you be so sure that he wasn't a good extempo speaker? You can actually see him speak fluently. And why bother with "ang bading nya magsalita. and even the gestures"? He's gay, kaya ganun, and so what?

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE THAT EVRYTHING HAS TO IMPROVE A LOT!!!! NAKAKAINIS, HINDI NA-MEET EXPECTATION KO. I THOUGHT GAGASTUSAN SIYA TALAGA NG GMA SINCE IT IS A PRESTIGIOUS SHOW! DAMN!!!!

Mas gusto kong host si Ryan Agoncillo.

'Varian Mazo The Ringleader' said...

Ang dami tlgang dapat i-improve, or better yet, palitan ang director!
Haha!
Sayang ang pinaghirapan ng production..

I prefer Raymond - Ryan sucked big time last season.

You're wrong, trace the history of the franchise on the net.
Philippine Idol is considered the 1st season, it's just that GMA renamed the franchise so that the show will not be associated anymore with the previous channel - the bad thing though is that even Mau Marcelo is affected by this.

Trust me too, I've had my share in public speaking.

GMA 7 bags RP ‘Idol’

By Bayani San Diego Jr.
Inquirer
First Posted 03:05am (Mla time) 09/16/2007

MANILA, Philippines - It’s official.

“Philippine Idol’s” season 2 will be aired on GMA 7, according to Geraldine Bravo, director of Marketing and Sales for FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder.

“We are very fortunate to find a new partner to produce ‘Philippine Idol,’” said Bravo in an official statement sent to Inquirer Entertainment on Friday.

The first season of the reality singing contest was aired by ABC 5 last year.

ABC 5 earlier insisted that it was still “deep in discussions with Fremantle and … barring any major glitch … [we will] still mount the second season.”

Sought to comment on the new development, ABC 5, through senior vice president for Corporate Affairs Terra Daffon, said, “ABC 5 is still waiting for official word from Fremantle.”

Bravo’s formal announcement, however, sealed the deal with GMA 7. “It is our intention to make [RP ‘Idol’] the biggest show the Philippines has ever seen,” Bravo said.

According to various sources, the show’s target launch is February 2008.

An insider told the Inquirer on Wednesday that GMA 7 had bagged the show as of Tuesday night.

The source claimed that GMA 7 would treat its RP “Idol” as a totally new show, independent of the first season—meaning, Mau Marcelo would not be considered the first winner.

But another informant said, “Fremantle should be the one to make such decisions.”

Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior vice president for Entertainment TV, said, “As far as we are concerned, this is our first partnership with Fremantle for the ‘Idol’ franchise.”

Bravo’s announcement, Galvante added, merely “means that [both parties] have agreed that GMA 7 has the experience, resources and people to mount talent-search programs [like ‘Idol’].”

In the statement, Bravo said there was no problem in finding talented singers in the Philippines. “The challenge is to keep the show interesting, by providing the viewers with an insight into the journeys that the singers are [taking].”

Galvante agreed: “That’s the essence of the ‘Idol’ franchise.” However, she declined to comment on ABC 5’s status. “That’s between ABC 5 and the people it was talking to in Fremantle.”

According to Bravo’s statement, “Fremantle has taken into consideration several parties to be the possible home of [RP ‘Idol’].” The statement reiterated that Fremantle considered GMA 7 as “an excellent partner ... having licensed other [Fremantle] shows like ‘Celebrity Duets,’ ‘Whammy,’ and ‘Family Feud.’”

One source said Regine Velasquez was being eyed as new ‘Idol’ host; another claimed that Ryan Agoncillo and Ryan Cayabyab would be retained as host and judge, respectively. “It’s too early to go into such details,” said Galvante.

Another question is whether Marcelo would compete in “Asian Idol” in November. According to a source, it was still undecided whether GMA 7 would participate in “Asian Idol” or whether record label Sony-BMG would field Marcelo in the regional contest in Jakarta.

Quite tellingly, Jan Nieto, Marcelo’s runner-up on Idol, is also signing up with GMA 7.
