Episode 82: Revenge of the Sleep

All day, I was at home. My routine was eat,
watch TV, sleep, eat, play Pokemon Silver, sleep, eat, surf the net, sleep… imagine that? Hehe… the good thing was, damn! I haven’t done that for
quite some time until now! Whew! I’ve missed that! But hey, I’m not a bum…

Did you notice the most abundant word at the
previous paragraph? Yes, you’re not mistaken, it was sleep. I don’t actually
know why, but my hint would be: all the sleepless nights I’ve had since January
because of my mild [mild…?] insomnia and mass of school works finally took
revenge on my system
.

I WAS REALLY, REALLY SLEEPY ALL DAY.

I actually had a bad night. And I am telling
you, I’m not going
… este, I’m not going to tell it here – BAD nga eh!

PROF Award

A very fruitful today it was…

The BMC 3rd years were summoned
earlier at PLM to be part of the most coveted honor there is on PR history –
nakz! Wahehe! Ok, rephrase: the BMC 3rd years were summoned earlier
at PLM to receive their merits and grades in a mini-recognition program for
their PR Practices class under Prof. Roel Ramirez, APR. The program was coined
PROF Award – Public Relations Outstanding Feat Award.

All groups from both blocks were present,
though some were missing in action due to some – I don’t really know – maybe,
personal-summer-vacation-stuffs.

And because of our hard works, dedication, and
passion (Huwow! Haha…), MIDAS received a lot – I said, a LOT – of awards.
Here’s the COMPLETE tally:

CASE STUDIES

Banana Republic = Gold (7 pts)

Caviteño Cooperage = Gold (7 pts)

Video News Release for Odor-Eater = Gold (7
pts)

MASSCOMM DAY EXHIBITS

PR Exhibit = Bronze (3 pts)

FINAL OUTPUT

Interview Portfolio for Bench = Bronze (3 pts)

Media Kit = Gold (7 pts)

Audio News Release = Gold (7 pts)

And because of those feats, we were proclaimed
as the 1st Place
for the Best Consolidated Group Output.

Plus, 7 (out of 8…) of us received a
certificate for an Out
standing Performance in PR Practices Class, which
entitles us as a certified IVY LEEGUER.

True to our name, MIDAS: Our Touch. Your Gold.,
we have indeed proven that everything we touch turns into something as precious
as gold – for we have the right dedication, the burning passion, and the
incomparable hard works.

PROF Award: Public Relations Outstanding Feat Award

These are the harvests of every PR student under Prof. Roel Ramirez, APR.

And true to our name [MIDAS: Our Touch. Your Gold], MIDAS garnered the 1st place for this semester - again.

Our tally:
5 Golds (7 pts)
0 Silvers (5 pts)
2 Bronzes (3 pts)

Indeed, it was a golden harvest for the group!

MassComm’s BIG WAVE!!!

“…and the Second
Runner-Up for the PLM Intramurals 2007 Cheering Competition is… from the
college… of…”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rajah Sulayman Gym, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng
Maynila
– Nine competing colleges battled it out for the most coveted and
highly anticipated honor of being the champions for this year’s PLM Intramurals
2007 Cheering Competition
.

Like on the verge of having a UAAP/NCAA-ish
pep-war, the nine squads performed their stints with utmost passion, vigor, and
competitiveness against one another. And as expected – as always – it was
indeed a healthy, but definitely a bloody cheering competition.

The nine squads consist the following (as for
the order of performance):

1. College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports – the
C.O.P.E.R.S. Gators

2. College of Tourism, Hotel, Travel and Industry
Management – the C.T.H.T.I.M. Slashers

3. College of Physical Therapy – the C.P.T. Warriors

4. College of Mass Communication – the C.M.C. Waves

5. College of Management and Entrepreneurship – the C.M.E.
Jaguars

6. College of Engineering and Technology – the C.E.T. Knights

7. College of Nursing – the C.N. Titans

8. College of Accountancy and Economics – the C.A.E. Dragons

9. College of Human Development – the C.H.D. Myth

The C.M.E. Jaguars emerged as the victors for
this year, garnering an average of 96.32%. Meanwhile, hanging after the Jaguars
are the C.H.D. Myth with 93.66% (1st Runner-Up), the C.M.C. Waves
with 93.33% (2nd Runner-Up), and the C.O.P.E.R.S. Gators with 93.03%
(3
rd Runner-Up).

The Myth received a 3-point deduction, for
originally they were the 4th to perform on the event. However, some
difficulties arose that prompted them to ask the Student Intramurals Council
(SIC)
to move their performance to be last on the list. The SIC approved the
request, but gave them a .5 deduction for every squad that adjusted to perform
prior to them, in accordance to their appeal.

On the other hand, the C.E.T. Knights, who were
the champions on this event for the past two consecutive years, emerged only 5th
in ranking.

The Cheering Competition was the highlight of
the closing ceremony of the PLM Intramurals 2007.

YES! The long wait was finally over – and the
blessing along with it was definitely a reason to celebrate – we have WON!

All the sacrifices: time, sweat, tears, money,

short: it was a success over hard work.

At this point, I would like to thank all the
people behind this wonderful journey of perseverance and triumph:

Johana Camilla “Cookie” Cadag, for being my
Female counterpart – the Female Team Captain of the C.M.C. Pep Squad
– and for
being my soul-catcher (at times when everything seems imperfectly not normal…)!
You rock PARTNER! \m/

My beloved squad members, the building blocks
of the C.M.C. Pep Squad:

1. Michael John Laurente

2. Jan Patrick Fazon (MIDAS…)

This success is the fruit of every sweat we’ve
managed to endure, the endless drought of throat we’ve experienced for having
less water breaks, the I-don’t-know-how-long tiring practice sessions we’ve
shared annoyingly, and the pile and pile of sacrifices we’ve surpassed all
together as one, as a team – as the C.M.C. Pep Squad! Thank you so much for
being one of the molecules of the college’s BIG Wave!

Luigi “Joaqui” Tagunicar, for being our
trainer; though we’ve been together for just a short time, keep in mind that
you are part of the C.M.C. Pep Squad pride.

Ulysses Castuciano, Joseph Molina and RJ for
being our well-respected lifters, marshals and drummers, you three are also
part of the squad. You are part of this victory!

Our respected families, for their continued
support, understanding, and love – thank you for nurturing us as we embark on
this test of confidence and talent.

Our second family, the College of Mass
Communication
, headed by the Dean Gemma Dela Cruz – thank you for the simple
yet meaningful prayers you’ve shared with us, and for honing us on becoming the
Next Breed of Excellent Communicators! CMC Fight!

The CMC Student Council and the Mass
Communication Students’ League
, thank you for your unending support for the
squad, may it be financially or morally. Thank you so much.

And lastly, to the Almighty God, our Divine
Master
and Teacher – thank you for letting us share this wonderful gif
t to the
world around us. You are the reason of this success, and we lift it up to You.

We may not have the grooviest moves, the
fanciest stunts, nor the funkiest music, but what we have is definitely the
real treasured price of this experience –
FRIENDSHIP.

And like what Kirsten Dunst said on the Bring

HINDRANCE to the MAX!

Weird…

One word to describe today’s events.

ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL

I went out of our home around 11:30AM to catch
my finals at 1:00PM on Media Laws & Ethics. Unfortunately, I left my phone.
So, instead of riding a jeepney to the terminal, I went back… I rode a tricycle
again, and it costs really badly.

Then when I was on the jeepney going to Round
Table, it broke! It took 3-5 minutes and 4 samaritans’ help before the jeepney
started moving again.

And then after I entered the PLM gate and was
about to enter the GV lobby, there was a swarm – SWARM – of freshmen students!
I was already late, and I was blocked by these departmental-exam slaves! Good
thing the class hadn’t started yet.

ON THE CHEERING PRACTICE

We were, again, supposed to practice at Chinese Garden, but another squad already
occupied the area
. So no choice, we transferred to our plan B, the grassy area
in front of a store.

Unluckily, the grassy area was so wet that mud
was everywhere
! And we don’t have any extensions also for our boom box. Next
resort: go back to PLM.

On the way to PLM, it rained! The rain was so
heavy
that you wouldn’t even recognize that it is still summer. The rain was
the living proof of the idiom: when it RAINS, it POURS.

Result: I was able to surpass all those
hindrances, and managed to go home, do this blog, and sleep now.

Tiring/Fruitful

A tiring but fruitful Sunday…

Tiring, in the sense that I was the squad
captain
, the trainer, the drummer, the lifter, and the dancer all at the same
time at cheerdance practice earlier; fruitful though, for we have somehow
polished the first part with the stunts and the half of the second part.

Our
attendance:

23/24 SAYANG!!!

Tiring, because I have been thinking of the
music, steps, and stunts for the remaining lapses of the routine; fruitful
enough, because even though it took me quite some time (it’s already 5:00AM
here), I still managed to finalize the music.

Tiring…

Fruitful…

Sleep.

Oh my SIGN?!

Some signs for your viewing, and laughing, pleasures... and the FUNNY side of this is - they're all REAL.

Hope you had a good laugh... Wahehe...

Tsinoy Big Brother?

The hell week is finally nearing its end.

We did our finals earlier for Asian
Civilization
, and our group was tasked to do a creative presentation about the
Chinese Civilization. The title of our presentation:

Tsinoy Big Brother – san ka
pa?! Wahehe… and yes, we got the highest grade!

I’m not gonna take a while writing this one,
for I still have some finalizing to do on our routine for the cheerdance.

Take note: this is due on Friday already, March
23
.

Hell Week

This is really the hell week!

I thought I wouldn’t be able to pass my final
output as the finals’ requirement for our RTV Writing class with Prof. Roy C.
Iglesias
for I was, of course, late! Luckily, MIDAS helped me…

Our creative presentation for our finals’
requirement also for our Asian Civilizations class was postponed earlier due to
lack of venue [asim…]. It was re-scheduled tomorrow, after our PR class.

Tomorrow’s the due date for our Interview
activity on our PR class, hopefully, what our group did would be well enough to
qualify the standards of Prof. Roel S. Ramirez, APR.

School, school, school… told yah, it’s the
Finals week – the hell week!

On a brighter note, I spent 1 whole hour for a
crash course in Adobe ImageReady 7.0 this night. And my efforts was paid off, I
was able to do a simple yet striking moving .gif [mag-buhat ban g sariling
bangko?...]. If you haven’t seen it on my Snapshots page (yep, I’ve posted it
there already…), just view it here.

That’s all…

Let's Groove!

I've been itching to know how to do such moving .gif pics...

Now, here's my first attempt...

A glimpse of my first masterpiece!

Isn’t this cool?

Just finished doing my RTV finals.

I have produced a 10-paged, TV script format,
written output for my Lampshade short story [read that, I’ve posted that a few
weeks back…]. We were asked to do the first six scenes… I hope I did well.

I’m just about to sleep. Cool huh?

UBER TIME!

Been awake for more than 48 hours nownot
kidding.

I wasn’t able to post a blog last night due to
some important academic requirements which I, together with my group mates,
needed to attend to and accomplish with.

And if you are still familiar with my most
recent picture albums posted here, then your guess is right – it’s PINDOT time!

The group (half-MIDAS) actually planned to do
the overnight at Shy’s crib, since hers is a much bigger place wherein the three
of us could move here and there easily. Plus, they have 3 laptops, and that
would mean 3 functioning laptops for the 4 of us.

Unfortunately, the most important of the 3 did
not functioned – it hibernated and cracked! Good Lord!

We actually started the deed around 11:45 PM,
of course without the miss of our secret recipe: landian. At around 1:00 AM,
the laptop hibernated. We, with the utmost cheer and hope we could ever muster,
predicted that in a couple of hours it would be OK to use that laptop again [we
even did plan to go bar-hopping around BF Homes, Parañaque… but we didn’t, too
bad!
]
.

2:00 AM…

3:00 AM…

Still nothing…

We began to shake, cram… though we did not
actually panic, anxiety crept through our senses and it hit us the realization
of: 2 hours had passed, still no progress… this is due later afternoon at 4:00
PM, and we haven’t started yet… OMG…

4:00 AM

Ting!

A huge bulb light – I dialed home – we arranged
our stuffs – prepared and went to Muntinlupa, our last resort: our house.

As soon as we got there around 5:00 AM, we
started the deed – this time, with a more serious approach. And as usual, I was
the head editor; but I congratulate Shy for a job well done! She now knows the
basics on editing using Sony Vegas!

Copy, paste, cut, move, paste, cut, copy, move,
paste, cut, paste, copy, so on, so on…

We did the finishing touches at around 12:00
PM, and with a smirk on our faces, we thought that everything would turn out
quite well although the laptop got broke.

I pushed the Render As button…

On 22%, it stopped…

Render again…

18%, it stopped…

Fear and pressure arises…

Render for the 3rd time…

27%, it stopped…

This is getting into our nerves…

We rendered again for 2 more tries…

At around 3:00 PM…

Still nothing.

We slightly panicked, but came up with a bright
solution: render this 15-minuter video output into 3 .avi parts – and the
solution succeed!
On the bad side, 1 GB+ per part! Damn! HINDI KASYA SA FLASH
DISK NOR CD’S NAMIN!

Another solution: import the 3 parts unto
Windows Movie Maker and render it as a whole.
And after 25 minutes, it was
finally done. But it’s already past 4:00 PM, and that means we’re late.

Burned the movie at 32x speed on VCD format –
arranged our stuffs – started Shy’s car engine – flew to Manila from Muntinlupa!

We arrived at PLM past 5:00 PM, and the most
friendly greeting hit us 4 on our faces – the professor is not around! Bingo!
[but the professor still asked to pass our video outputs…]

Before going home, I treated myself with large
French fires, 5pc chicken nuggets, regular coke, and a 16oz strawberry
milkshake from McDonald’s.

Now, I’m off to bed – finally! After a long,
long, long over time… or uber time!

Not deleted!

Today, I’m much happier than the previous days.

As a usual routine, it was a boring start of
the week – don’t ask.

Our group finalized all the needed shots for
our PINDOT documentary and we are scheduled to have an over-night,
operation-edit at Shy’s house tomorrow/later in the evening.

I have finished my Stand Upper [it’s field
reporting, sorry… Masscomm terms… :P] earlier, and just now – yes, now – I’m
rendering the edited version of it. It’s not actually finished yet for it still
lacks some clips and footages – again, thank you ate Rex! She’ll be the one
who’ll lend us some footage, our savior! Thank you so much ate!

After posting this blog, I won’t sleep yet.
Instead, I’ll be doing Seph’s Stand Upper.

Till next time, I guess…

Oh! One more thing before I formally lest you
leave my site…

I have news – good news! And this is a BIG one!

I

have

discovered

that

my

files

were

not

deleted!

Again: I have discovered that my files were not
deleted!
It was just stored on a hidden folder somewhere in My Documents!

Bad Side, Good Side

A happy day indeed…

Though there were times today that mishaps and
loopholes fell into place, I still managed to smile and inhale the goodness of
life. Yes, I was refreshed.

The bad side: again, there were only 9
attendees for our cheering practice earlier; the good side: we saw the samples
of our cheering uniform, though there were “x’s”, at least we could still ask
for revisions.

The bad side: it took me, and Cookie, quite
some time at Robinson’s earlier looking for a Nokia CA-42 USB Cable; the good
side:
we saw one, though it was a bit expensive, I still managed to buy it.

The bad side: I stared into nothingness for
hours; the good side: I met my best friend, and we bonded like hell! Happy,
happy, happy!

Actually, the events of this day entices my
heart to re-open its doors – again – to it-that-must-not-be-named… drama! Wahaha…

On the brighter side of them all: I am happy.

Smile…

A day to start smiling again…

Since it was Saturday, the usual MIDAS routine
was observed earlier: PR class, then to Mall of Asia – this time, with a
school-ish purpose.

We planned to go to MoA to capture some
hidden-forbidden shots inside and semi-inside it. Of course, like always, it
was a success! Wahaha…

We were fortunate to witness the fireworks
display – this time much closer and the whole show.

Realization of the day:

too many requirements,
too little time!

Ok, I’ll still smile…

Tragic Loss

Tragic loss – I’m serious.

A few hours ago, I did the three, stupidest
things I could ever do at this point in my life:

-
copied
and pasted old – should I say, treasured – files from my back-up drive to my
hard drive…

-
waited
for 30 minutes or so for that process…

-
deleted
the copied files from my back-up drive…

Never thinking, and never realizing, that what
I did was just a sort of link or shortcut to the raw ones, I hit the delete
button with utmost conviction. Yes, I was doing that consciously. Now here I
am… the stupid me.

Gusto kong magtago sa damit na suot ko! Yung
tipong walang makakakita sa’kin!

Gusto kong sumigaw! Yung tipong mapapatid litid
ko at maririnig sa buong Luzon!

Gusto kong lumubog sa kina-uupuan ko! Yung
tipong mababaon ako sa lupa!

Gusto kong i-untog ang ulo ko! Yung tipong may
maaalog para matauhan ako!

Gusto kong sapakin yung CPU! Pero hindi pwede…
mahal ko ‘to.

Everything that I have persevered, may it be
products of group works or individual outputs, it was all gone – GONE! From my
treasured pictures, to ego-boosting written outputs, to music files, to secret
files, up to the first and latest AVP
everything has vanished because of my
stupid brain and fingers!

On the not-so-brighter side, I DON’T THROW
CD’S
.

Before I did this blog, I scavenged for
important files on the pile of CDs at my computer table, and also from my
multiply site and e-mail account (on the Sent folder…) which came a bit handy
for a meantime.

From the 100% important files that I have
erased because of stupidity, I managed to retrieve about 45% of it. But I won’t
stop, I’ll hunt my professors and beg them to let me re-copy my/our outputs.

Damn!

For a change… bad night.
