Talented and undiscovered Filipino fashion designers has proven to be in the right time for picking as ETC last night, July 30, 2008, premiered the pilot episode of the first season of Project Runway Philippines. Based from the hit US reality show, Project Runway Philippines has an ensemble of the best people to freshen up primetime viewing.
They have showcased 14 finalists who were proud enough to call themselves experts – though some of them really have weird sense of fashion. On a positive note, the first runway show however was indeed full of creativity.
The local version of the show is really well made. Every Project Runway fan, or even not, will surely appreciate the show’s flow since the arrangement and editing of scenes are somewhat alike the original. Camera angles, scene fillers, and time lapse which have a Project Runway trademark are also seen in this show. Opening billboard was so damn cool! The only thing that bothered me are the music selection, it’s somehow boring.
Rajo Laurel and Apples Aberin-Sahdwani are perfect for the judging posts. Teresa Herrera is no Heidi Klum – because she can stand on her own. I like her way of delivering lines, and the fact that Klum had signature lines didn’t bother me at all since Herrera was really good. Heidi is Heidi – but Teresa is Teresa, she’s the perfect pick to host the show. However, I find the local version of Tim Gunn, Jojie Lloren, awkward – what’s with the glasses?
ETC and Solar has really done a wonderful job of doing this show. And I can proudly say “move over” to PBB, PDA, and Pinoy Idol; Project Runway Philippines is the franchise show to beat. And no, they don’t need to copy the original, the show can stand on its own.
So for all the people behind Project Runway Philippines, carry on!
