Project Runway Philippines

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

Talented and undiscovered Filipino fashion designers has proven to be in the right time for picking as ETC last night, July 30, 2008, premiered the pilot episode of the first season of Project Runway Philippines. Based from the hit US reality show, Project Runway Philippines has an ensemble of the best people to freshen up primetime viewing.

They have showcased 14 finalists who were proud enough to call themselves experts – though some of them really have weird sense of fashion. On a positive note, the first runway show however was indeed full of creativity.

The local version of the show is really well made. Every Project Runway fan, or even not, will surely appreciate the show’s flow since the arrangement and editing of scenes are somewhat alike the original. Camera angles, scene fillers, and time lapse which have a Project Runway trademark are also seen in this show. Opening billboard was so damn cool! The only thing that bothered me are the music selection, it’s somehow boring.

Rajo Laurel and Apples Aberin-Sahdwani are perfect for the judging posts. Teresa Herrera is no Heidi Klum – because she can stand on her own. I like her way of delivering lines, and the fact that Klum had signature lines didn’t bother me at all since Herrera was really good. Heidi is Heidi – but Teresa is Teresa, she’s the perfect pick to host the show. However, I find the local version of Tim Gunn, Jojie Lloren, awkward – what’s with the glasses?

ETC and Solar has really done a wonderful job of doing this show. And I can proudly say “move over” to PBB, PDA, and Pinoy Idol; Project Runway Philippines is the franchise show to beat. And no, they don’t need to copy the original, the show can stand on its own.

So for all the people behind Project Runway Philippines, carry on!

Happy Birthday Harry Potter & J.K. Rowling!

Disclaimer: I'm a total Potter-freak, so please bear with me regarding this post (or else I'll use my wand against my will?).

REMINDER: Read the following blog (even in your thoughts) in British accent, please. I insist. Thanks mate.

July 31st marks the birth of the most famous wizard of all time, Harry Potter, and the most infamous female author to date, J. K. Rowling.

This woman, together with her creations, has inspired me in many ways I could not imagine. So as a token of gratitude, I celebrate this day - their birthdays - as the day that started it all, The Boy Who Lived and The Girl Who Wrote.

Happy Birthday
Harry James Potter (July 31, 1980)
and
Joanne Kathleen Rowling (July 31, 1965)!
Aguamenti!
LOL!

Disclaimer: I happen to find this old journal of mine way back 2nd year high school just weeks ago. I’ve decided to post the entries here because this has been the mirrors of my passion for writing before. Bear with me for some grammatical errors.

Power of Three

There were three Halliwell sisters
Who lives with magics and spells
Book of Shadows is their source
For protections and powerful force

They don’t know about their half sister
Who’s a half witch and half Whitelighter
She was raised in the church so well
And named as Paige Halliwell

Until one of them died
When demon Shax striked
It was the eldest among the siblings
Who has the power to move things

Other’s say it was their destiny
Their pathway and reality
As their grandmother said
“You will be completed again”

So there were three Halliwell sisters
Who lived with magics and spells
Named as Prue, Piper and Phoebe
And known as the “Power of Three”

###

Who wasn’t enchanted by these spell-binding trio – or quartet? This poem is the proof of how I was very addicted to Charmed since its first season. I would remember telling everyone at school to watch it every Mondays 9:00 PM at Studio 23 [I was like a walking advertisement then], and boasting to my friends how I have memorized the spells [but not now I guess]. This has been one of my all-time favorite TV shows, and this actually introduced me into my fascination about magic. Yes, before I was hooked to [in British accent please] Potter, Weasley and Granger, the Halliwell sisters were my best friends in my dreams. For I believed that “The Power of Three will set us free."

Pinoy Idol Final 7 - Elimination Results 07/27/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Who were in the bottom group?

Kid Camaya

Warren Antig

Penelope

Whose Idol journey has ended?

Top 7 - Penelope - Weak
Uploaded by idol_fanatic

THOUGHTS

Kid was safe - I rejoiced! Warren again was saved by his beloved relatives and friends - I was doomed! Why? Penelope left the show tonight. First Mae, then Robby, now Penelope! Sad, but true.

We haven't heard anything from the judges tonight, but I admire Jolina and Ogie for standing and applauding Penelope for a job well done - they were not afraid to show their sympathy for the remaining excellent hopeful who was just booted out. Again, there were mascots on the venue! F*ck Ignacio!

Unless the so-called BIG announcement for next week's gala performance and elimination results night is pertaining to a Wildcard - or anything that would bring back the most deserving hopefuls who were booted out - then I guess Pinoy Idol is really a hopeless show. Thanks Direk for starting the season very, very right.

Pinoy Idol Final 7 - 'Rock-rakan: Pinoy OPM Bands as Mentors' Week 6 07/26/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Theme: Rock-rakan: Pinoy OPM Bands' Week

Who owned the night?

Jayann Bautista with Akin Ka Na Lang

Who might be in the bottom 3?

Gretchen Espina

Ram Chaves

Warren Antig

It's the Rock week, so I expected that the remaining rockers in the competition will really step their games up tonight and wow everyone. Unfortunately, they did not. Gretchen has the attempt, her performance was nearly there - but she failed vocally. Ram as expected sounded good, but it was plain, and the performance was really short that the spark was lost. Warren, however, murdered yet another song. He doesn't deserve the vote. Props for Daryl for making it really big tonight! I was really astounded for what he did!

THOUGHTS

Since the show began, tonight's gala performance has the cleanest audio yet - thanks Warren for last week's query! The singers were really heard clearly throughout each performance. However, the lights and editing are still the same. And Karylle was there again! For heaven's sake, give the floor to Raymond - for hosting is his job.

Week after week, Wyngard is booed by fans from the audience. That's really cool! Ogie still gives the best comments. Jolina? Never mind..

Like the other episodes, there were again awkward moments. Direk, did I really see Jollibee mascots behind the judges? And why were the bands standing at the corner of the stage? But unlike weeks ago, tonight's gala performance was indeed enjoyable.

Project Runway Philippines: Work It!

The Runway Re-opens..
here in the Philippines!
Photobucket
Project Runway Philippines
July 30th, Wednesday
8:00 PM on ETC SBN 21

###

I'm such a huge fan of reality shows! Well, there are exceptions of course, but Project Runway is one of my favorites - seasons 1 to 4!

Now that we have our own franchise of the show, I'm really, really excited to watch it! Philippines' Next Top Model was a disappointment for me (Ruffa Guttierrez sucks!), so I'm expecting a lot from Teresa Herrera, Apples Aberin-Sahdwani, Jojie Lloren and Rajo Laurel.

CONFESSION: Actually, I planned to audition last January - some of my closest friends know this. But when I was that close to finalizing my thoughts, I realized these things:

1) I'm the type of person who's more active at night, especially in the wee hours (thanks to PLM). Call me nocturnal, but I do things excellently when the sun is down and darkness creeps the surroundings.

2) I know how to draw/sketch, and I have the eyes and hands for creativity. But, I don't know how to make a dress! For heaven's sake! Cross-stitch and pillow cases were the only sewing projects we had during grade school.

So, if I would sum up 1 and 2, and if ever I would pass the standards of Project Runway Philippines and become one of its finalists, then.. I'm pretty sure I would be the first one to be eliminated! Why?

1) Project Runway challenges has deadlines, and most of it are a 1-day process in which you should finish your creation by exactly 12:00 midnight. If that's the first challenge, what are my chances? LOL!

2) And, I don't know how to use a sewing machine! We actually have one here at home, but I wasn't taught - rather, I don't want to be taught. Hand sewing, which is actually not an expertise of mine, is not a very good weapon either for this show.

So yes, I did not audition. I have decided that I'd just feast my eyes on their creations when the show starts next Wednesday.

But if ever someone from that show reads this - I would be very willing to accept an offer of help, may it be on designing or constructing a piece. Really, I would be very glad. LOL!

I made a site for a while

This was one of my many absurd entries on my high school journal – and yes, it was dedicated to Britney. What the heck? I loved her – and still love her up to now! On the week when I accidentally found this journal, and upon reading its contents, I remembered this one; I chuckled silently in our living room. Then when I went online, I checked the site. Haha! I was surprised to see this:

A Reflection.. #2 [07.20.08]

In a Hospital

A mother and her daughter where in a hospital for the child’s monthly check-up. As the doctor examines the little girl..

Little Girl:

What’s that?

Doctor:

This is a stethoscope my child.

Little Girl
:

What is that for?

Doctor:

It is used to hear what our hearts says.

Little Girl:

Can I try it?

Mother:

Baby, don’t bother your doctor, ok?

The mother and the doctor smiled at each other. Because the doctor was impressed on how curious the child was, he granted her wish.

Doctor:

Alright, I’ll let you hear what your heart says..

The doctor put the earpiece on the girl’s right ear and put the scope upon the girl’s left chest.

Little Girl:

Wow… Mommy, is that Jesus knocking?

Even a child knows where Jesus is, how about you?

Pinoy Idol Final 8 - Elimination Results 07/20/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Who were in the bottom group?

Ram Chaves

Daryl Celis

Toffer Rei

Whose Idol journey has ended?

Top 8 - Toffer Rei
Uploaded by idol_fanatic

THOUGHTS

So Daryl was part of tonight's bottom group even though he excelled in the gala performance last night - this means trouble; well, for Daryl's side only I guess. This only means that Pinoy Idol viewers are now voting for the better ones among the remaining hopefuls, and too bad Daryl's not one of them. But I'm actually glad he's safe this time. Ram and Toffer were the other two in the bottom group; where Toffer left the show tonight with lots of smiles from the faces of the remaining hopefuls, and Warren even carried him as a sign of salute to his friend - but I think Warren should've been the one eliminated. Hello Wyngard and Ogie? Kid's not the one who's deteriorating, it's Warren!

Speaking of Warren, as broadcasted earlier in Pinoy Idol Extra, he was complaining about the show's sound system last night. To quote his query, "Please lang, sayang yung pinaghirapan ko kasi hindi ko marinig yung boses ko sa audio". The audio man (I forgot his name) answered and said that nothing's wrong with the audio. Well, Mr. Ignacio? When will you wake up? Somebody "from" your show has already broadcasted nationwide his "complain". Please be concerned!

Pinoy Idol Final 8 - 'Queen of Soul Jaya as Mentor' Week 5 07/19/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Theme: Queen of Soul Jaya's Week

Who owned the night?

Penelope with Beauty And Madness

Penelope - Beauty and Madness
Uploaded by starmometerdotcom

Who might be in the bottom 3?

Warren Antig

Toffer Rei

Gretchen Espina

Warren murdered the song. Nothing more, nothing less to say. Toffer looked and sounded trying hard - it lessened the appeal of his performance. Gretchen actually started quite well, but it got boring and boring and boring. I'm actually surprised that Daryl's not in my list tonight - for I was surprised on how good he was in this week's gala night! I'm seeing a potential Jan Nieto, remember him?

THOUGHTS

The lights and the editing again are the biggest crap in this show. It's so colorful that it hurts the eyes, yet the show is squeezed in a very short time span that it really looks somewhat in a rush. Mr. Ignacio, are you there? I saw Karylle again - only twice. Why was she there? She shouldn't be there!

Jaya should've been the female judge in this show - she uttered significant and helpful comments tonight that really outshone Jolina's. Wyngard is still booed by fans - love it! Such an Idol classic!

So the first two music videos were shown tonight - who was the director? The first one's a crap - with awkwardness on every blockings and the lack of headrooms. The second one's better, both vocals and visuals - but still amateurish. But I must admit, I enjoyed this gala night compared to last week's. Kudos Jaya!

I've seen the sign of the Batman!

It was my first time to watch at SM Muntinlupa..
The Dark Knight was superb!

The Dark Knight

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Action & Adventure
Joker asked, “Will the real Batman please stand up?”, and so Christian Bale stood up – twice in a row! This is the best Batman movie ever!

I’m not really fond of the Batman, even its cartoon version, but I must say Christopher Nolan is one heck of a director! Batman Begins was awesomely good last 2005, but the sequel’s way better. This is official: it’s my favorite movie for this year so far.

I just don’t get why Katie Holmes didn’t play Rachel Dawes this time, but who cares? Maggie Gyllenhaal did well – but my props really goes to Heath Ledger! This is the best I’ve seen of him; at least he died after doing this incredible role, he left something really significant – he owned and crushed the Joker role. Bless his soul.

The film this time was darker and much action-packed – but Batman being a vulnerable man behind the mask still lingered, and that’s cool; the Batman’s really worthy to be The Dark Knight – that’s no chance at all, that’s a fact. And yes Joker, I'm serious.

The High School Journal [Entry.#1]

Disclaimer: I happen to find this old journal of mine way back 2nd year high school just weeks ago. I’ve decided to post the entries here because this has been the mirrors of my passion for writing before. Bear with me for some grammatical errors.

2 Faces of LIFE

As we all know, people often say that there are 2 kinds of persons living here on Earth; the abuser and the abused. Based on my experience 1 year ago, I wrote a poem regarding it and also about what I am experiencing right now, a total of 2 poems. And here it goes…

A Poem (1)

I loved my friend.

He went away from me.

There’s nothing more to say.

The poem ends,

Soft as it began –

I loved my friend.

This was based on my experience one year ago. It’s about my former bestfriends who had left me. Left me because they don’t want me to be their bestfriend anymore. I don’t know why and I don’t know what to do that time. And thank GOD there’s someone right here who filled my longing of having a bestfriend. Their names are Daryl and Jeffrey, two people who had been there for me when I was sad and lonely. So, as a token of gratitude, I dedicate to them this Journal and also this short poem that I wrote…

For My Bestfriends (2)

Every person in the world

should have someone like you.

To share a special moment with

or tell a secret to –

There would be joy in every heart

and gladness would abound

if only every person had a bestfriend,

like you, to have around.

(My signature goes here)

###

This was my first entry on my journal – mushy for just a bestfriend you may say? Yes. I don’t deny that. I loved them – they became a part who I was and who I am now. Well, wherever they are (even the ones I’ve named), I hope they still remember me..

X marks the spot! Xcellent!

Jam-packed with action scenes, cool visual effects, and twists – I highly recommend this movie, even though you have anxiety attacks. That massive train scene was really awesome.

I’m not really fond of action flicks, but this one’s really good. The effective gel of the cast with the story and its visuals will surely make you drool for more.

And yes, Angelina Jolie’s butt was no decoy.

A Reflection.. #1 [07.13.08]

In a Barber Shop

Barber:
God doesn't exist because if there is God, there will be no suffering.

His customer didn't reply to avoid arguments, then left the shop. Outside, he saw a beggar with long dirty hair. The man went back to the shop.

Man:
You know, barbers don't exist.

Barber:
Can't you see I'm a barber?

Man:
If barbers exist, there would be no man with long dirty hair.

Barber:
It's just that they don't come to me.

Man:
Same with God, if people will just come to Him, there will be no suffering.

###

Do we need to realize suffering first, before looking up to Him?

God bless y'all!

Pinoy Idol Final 9 - Elimination Results 07/13/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Who were in the bottom group?

Kid Camaya

Toffer Rei

Penelope

Sue Ellen

Whose Idol journey has ended?

Top 9 - Sue Ellen - Dadalhin
Uploaded by idol_fanatic

THOUGHTS

I wasn't surprised with Toffer and Kid being in the bottom group, for I still think they lack charm and spunk as a performer; but yes, they are part of the better singers in the group. My jaws dropped when the two were safe and Penelope and Sue were the bottom 2! Yes, of all the remaining hopefuls, why Penelope? For heaven's sake! She's undeniably good! But Sue left the competition tonight with a big smile and cheered "Good luck guys!" - finally, someone deserving to go was booted out.

They were grouped before the results were announced, another Idol classic! But the editing? C'mon direk! So Daryl and Gretchen were yet again safe - thanks again to their families, friends, and ever-loyal fans who supports them, and thanks to Wyngard for reminding who to vote each week deservingly.

Pinoy Idol Final 9 - 'Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez as Mentor' Week 4 07/12/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Theme: Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez's Week

Who owned the night?

Jayann Bautista with Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka

Who might be in the bottom 3?

Sue Ellen

Gretchen Espina

Daryl Celis

Gretchen's Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang reminded me of AI7's Kristy Lee Cook on her attempt to make 8 Days A Week a country song, but this time, she twisted it to sound acoustic. And yes, it sounded awful. Sue again makes a mistake while performing - what a shame. Daryl just can't perform at par with the others no matter what he does, and no matter how loud his fans cheer for him.

THOUGHTS:

The editing really is a crap! Who is the editor here? Minamadali nyo ang show, nawawalan ng saysay. And please! The lights! Ang dami-dami! Tinatalo ang kagandahan ng background visuals - sayang! And again, why was Rhian there?

Ogie and Wyngard still gives unbiased comments that is deserved by each hopefuls - yet again, Jolina remains the biggest joke of this show, and there she goes again with the irritating remark "winner". Regine was there, trying hard not to be too harsh for everyone because it's her week - which actually went ok.

Fanbase is really growing, but the show's improvement paces slowly and slowly, thanks to the director I guess. And yes, this attempt to have our own Mariah Carey week wasn't that successful.

On pre-paid electric bills..

I was stunned with the preview of this news earlier (and obviously, I can’t get over it because I blogged it here):

Electric supply might be in pre-paid cards as well some time soon!

(Ang kuryente ay maaring maging pre-paid card na sa darating na mga araw!)

What on Earth is that idea? I mean, is our economy really that low to do such moves? What happens now with Meralco’s over-costing of bills?

Honestly, I didn’t watch the news segment about this. I was so pissed! Can’t we think of any good way to solve today’s crisis?

I really don’t know if I’m reacting in a good way, for I have said that I didn’t watch the news – I don’t know what’s the whole information, when and why this was plotted, and whoever he/she was who thought this.

My point: there’s a lot going on in our country today that needs more attention than having pre-paid cards for electric bills.

I hope my reaction’s really in a good way..

Bitches sometimes do rule the society nowadays – it’s up to you whether you would go with the flow, or stay out of trouble by befriending one of them.

The show’s story actually tickles my mean side, I don’t know why. At first, I thought this show is only about money and glamour, but when I started to be glued on each of its episodes, I started to look beyond – it reflects how fate affects life, like a bitch!

Great job I guess for the people behind GG, they have finally reinvented the flunked The O.C. in a different tone – where bitches rule Manhattan and not Orange County.

I still can’t get over it. I’m so excited for the next season.

And yes, Gossip Girl knows that I love her. xoxo

Pinoy Idol Final 10 - Elimination Results 07/06/08

Who among these hopefuls will be the first Pinoy Idol?

Who were in the bottom group?

Daryl Celis

Sue Ellen

Robby Navarro

Whose Idol journey has ended?

Robby Navarro - The Greatest Love Of All
Uploaded by idol_fanatic

THOUGHTS

I rejoiced when Daryl and Sue were announced to be part of the bottom group! But when I heard Robby was the third hopeful to be part of it and was the third hopeful to be eliminated in the competition - I was devastated! C'mon Filipinos! Aren't you sick and tired of watching charming people on TV that has everything except a single tinge of talent?! This is so sick! Robby's definitely, hands-down, the best among the remaining hopefuls - and yet Daryl was saved. Crap.

This has been the most shocking results night of Pinoy Idol since the show began. I totally hate and disagree with the public's verdict. And yes, I think the judges and the entire staff and crew of the show feels the same way, too.
