Bus Ride (I never expected seeing you/Eu again)

I never expected seeing you again.

The ride home this night has been one of the most relaxing ones I’ve ever had in my college life. For after a series of sleepless and homeless nights, finally, I am going home – earlier than usual.

As I aboard unto my bus ride for home, I saw the most unlikely person that I expect to see and be with at that time [or even anytime..]: my ex.

There it was, the capital X, seated at the not-so-back most part of the bus. I should’ve froze, but to my surprise, I did not. Upon laying my eyes on X’s eyes, there was no electric current between the stares nor even sparks – just a blank, cold space. X offered the seat next to her, and I did not refuse. I sat beside X, feeling cold; not really knowing if the coolness is coming from the bus’ aircon or from the awkwardness of the situation.

Then it started; X started:

 

“…kamusta ka na…?”

 

“…eto ok lang, ikaw…?”

…

…

…

 

“…pumayat ka…”

 

“…sabi nga nila…”

 

“…pero mas maputi ka pa rin sa’kin…”

 

“…oo nga…”

 

…

…

zzzZZZZZ…

I was happy after that. No, we did not have any reconciliation, nor a step back on the mushiness we’ve had before. I felt happy because we’re friends – I think. That for me is enough. The bus ride for home became extra special.

 

I never expected seeing Eu again.

I’ve been an avid fan of Marimar since its original version starring Thalia way back 1994. I remember myself seating on our couch, together with the rest of the family, at around 6:20 PM during those days, drooling over the TV; waiting for that familiar, angelic face to pop up in front of my eyes, accompanied by the most soothing song that makes my ears flap whenever I hear it. Yes, my childhood wouldn’t have been complete without Marimar.

Thirteen years after, here I am once again, an avid fan of Marimar – our own local version starring Marian Rivera. Honestly, I still feel the same sensation, and the only difference today is that I have to run [or should I say, fly, most of the time..] home just to catch the show. Yes, Marimar helps me in summing up a wonderful day.

Just this night, I realized something: I am really a fan, an avid fan – an addict.

 

I remembered the past weeks where I just held my pen on top of a piece of paper and drew the title of Marimar. Some of my friends find it as a joke, or an escape route from visiting dreamland; I thought of it like that, too – but not now.

I remembered the past few days where hell was about 6 feet above ground level and sleep was the last word on the dictionary. But this night was different; I have watched Marimar again after a series of absences on our couch. I have been dead tired a couple of days back – but not now.

Just this night, I confessed: I am really a fan, an avid fan – an addict.

 

Aww!
